Kilcavan 2-04 Ballylinan 1-11

The Ballylinan Senior Panel travelled to Kilcavan to take on the home side in round 8 of the All County Football League. It was an evening the full panel was tested as Ballylinan were without eight of their regular fifteen. To compound the situation Ballylinan conceded a goal within two minutes when their stand-in goalkeeper Walter Hovenden failed to gather a ball within the small square and an in-rushing Kilcavan forward crashed the ball to the net. Kieran Kelly opened the scoring for the visitors with a pointed free. Kilcavan then restored their lead to three points from a 21 yard free. At this stage Ballylinan started to gain control of the game and despite points from Aidan Walsh, Jimmy Rowan and Kieran Kelly again it was very poor return for the possession they enjoyed or the chances they created. The failure to finish these chances became all the more costly when Kilcavan again found an opening in the otherwise tight marking Ballylinan backline to score another goal minutes before half time. This was to be the last score of the first half leaving it 2-01 to 0-04 in favour of the home side. Ballylinan started the second half with a Kieran Kelly point, but Kilcavan replied with a pointed free. The sides again exchanged points before Ballylinan got their only goal of the game when Jimmy Rowan finished from close range to level the sides for the second time. Conor Harrington then scored from one of his trade mark long range frees to put Ballylinan in front for the first time in the game. This lead was short lived however as Kilcavan pointed to again level the sides. With the game entering the final ten minutes Ballylinan finally found their range as they scored four unanswered points from Conor Harrington, David Brennan and two from Kieran Kelly run out winners on the score line of 1-11 to 2-04.
