Junior 'C' Hurling
Championship
Thursday 19th July 2007 - Round 1
Ballylinan 2-07 Timahoe 2-06
Ballylinan got their Junior ‘C’ Hurling campaign off to a winning start with a one point victory over Timahoe last night the 19th July in Timahoe. Ballylinan got off to the better start and were three points to the good thanks to Conor Harrington and Kieran Kelly. Timahoe responded with a point after a number of wides before Walter Hovenden deflected a Conor Harrington free to the Timahoe net. Kieran Kelly added another point as Timahoe started to get a grip on the game. The last ten minutes of the half was all Timahoe as they converted three points and were very unlucky not to have a goal only for the good goal keeping of David Dobbyn in the Ballylinan net. The referee blew the half time whistle declaring the scores 1-04 to 0-04 in favour of Ballylinan but the Ballylinan management didn’t agree with this score line and many at the game believed the score to be 1-05 to 0-03 but the referee declared that his word was final.
Timahoe started the second half with all guns blazing but were still finding it difficult to find their range. The sides exchanged points before Timahoe found the back of the Ballylinan net to level the scores. It was really game on now as Timahoe pushed hard to build on the goal but were finding no way through the Ballylinan defence with Aidan Walsh giving a commanding performance from centre back and Lar Wall working hard in the midfield sector. Ballylinan regained the lead with a pointed free and then went four clear when Conor Harrington found the net from long range. Timahoe closed the gap to three points with less than ten minutes remaining with a point from play. With the game entering injury time Timahoe managed to get a ball past David Dobbyn in the Ballylinan goal to level the scores. Timahoe had two more chances to win the game but failed to find the target. Ballylinan pushed forward for one final attack and were awarded a 65 which they failed to convert, from the puck out they gained possession again and Mick McCarthy was on hand to seal victory with a well taken point.
